Your Rights

Yes! You do have rights as a carer.
This growing section (which is continually being developed) will advise you on exactly what those rights are.
Under the Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000, carers aged 16 or over who provide a regular and substantial amount of care for someone aged 18 or over have the right to an assessment of their needs as a carer.

Your Health
One thing is important for all carers - to look after your own health! To help with this (even though we understand it is not easy at times) we have a Wellness Guide available for download.
Wellness Guide (produced by The NHS and Sunderland City Council)
Please use this guide to help you to look after your own health as best you can. The file is in what is called PDF format which is widely used for brochures, guides, leaflets etc - you will need a program called Adobe Reader
which is free and is
available for download from their site by clicking on this text.
